MPG is an abbreviation of ‘Miles Per Gallon’.
The higher the MPG, the more miles you can travel on one gallon of fuel. This means that a car with a higher MPG will be more cost-effective to run than one with a lower MPG.
A gallon is equivalent to 4.55 Litres in the UK. Therefore if a car does 45mpg, each gallon of fuel the car consumes will enable you to travel 45 miles before the car runs out of fuel.
